Meet Kyra Gonzalez
You’ve probably seen her running around Patsy’s helping brides find the perfect sash to compliment their gown, styling lace jackets with strapless gowns and making sure brides get their dresses perfectly on time for their bridal portraits and of course their wedding days.
For those who don’t know her, meet our manager, Kyra Gonzalez.
Where are you from?
KG: Well… I was born in Englewood, New Jersey, grew up in Memphis, TN, went to college in Boulder, Colorado, and then spent 6 years in New York City before moving to Dallas in May 2012.
What are your hobbies?
KG: My #1 hobby is spending time with my husband and puppy! Besides that, I’m very creative and crafty… I really enjoy scrapbooking, knitting, and sewing.
Family members? 😉
KG: My husband Carlos and pup Abita!
When did you start working at Patsy’s and why?
KG: I started at Patsy’s in August 2012. My husband and I had just moved to Dallas that May (1 month before our own wedding back in NY) and I really enjoyed everything that had to do with the wedding process. I had had to quit my corporate job when we moved to Dallas and I knew I didn’t want to go back to that type of environment… I really just wanted to do something that I was passionate about. My husband was the one who suggested I apply to Patsy’s and the rest is history!
What’s your favorite part of working with brides-to-be?
KG: My favorite part of working with brides has to be getting to know them and their stories. I enjoy hearing how they met their fiancés, how they were proposed to, what they do for work, and even where they grew up. All of these details allow me to really connect with my brides and establish lasting friendships!
When helping brides choose their gown, what’s your personal technique in making sure they successfully find what they’re looking for?
KG: I always want to know more than just what type of gown they are looking for… I want to know details about the wedding! Not only does this allow me to really connect with my brides but it also helps me learn about their personalities and assists in finding their perfect gown!
What is the most common style of gown brides have been purchasing lately? Your personal favorite?
KG: Lately it’s been all about the back of the gown, brides want low or interesting backs! This is such a dramatic look and very popular on Pinterest! My personal favorite, however, will always be a ballgown silhouette. To me, there is nothing more classic, and after all, who doesn’t want to be a princess?
Do you have a funny/cute story you could share with us about a day in the life of a bridal boutique?
KG: One of the things I love the most about working at Patsy’s is that every day is different!
Have you ever dealt with a “bridezilla”? (Of course, no names shall be uttered)
KG: YES! Although fortunately not many 😉
What do you find is the most frequently asked question when brides try on their wedding dresses?
KG: The most common question by far is “How does it bustle?”. The answer is that the bustle is almost always sewn in during alterations. The reason most wedding gown designers do it this way is because there are multiple ways that a gown can be bustled, i.e. French bustle or American bustle. Additionally, the gown needs to be hemmed to the correct length before the bustle can be properly sewn in.
Thanks so much, Kyra! We are lucky to have you 🙂
